| A
Short History of Memphis Alarm Company, Inc.
Hunter
G. Harbison retired from the U.S. Army in 1961. He came home to
Memphis and went into the gum machine business with the Memphis
Optimist Club.
After
a few months of servicing gum machines, he noticed that many of
the gum machines were being broken, vandalized, and burglarized.
He realized then that these small business needed alarm systems,
and there weren't many alarm companies. He saw the opportunity
to help out these businesses and others in need of security, so
his two brothers, Robert and Edwin, and he started Memphis Alarm
Company, Inc. in 1962. They worked out of Hunter's home installing
and servicing burglar and fire alarms for homes and businesses.
In
1966 Hunter was called back into the Army and served in Vietnam
as a pilot. His brothers continued to run Memphis Alarm Company,
Inc. in his absence. He retired in 1968 and took up where he left
off with the company.
He
was busy from that time until his death in December 2001 keeping
his customers satisfied. He was very diligent in taking care of
his customers with no desire to "get rich," just give
the best care and service he possibly could.
His
son, Hunter L. Harbison, and his two daughters, Nancy and Jayne
Harbison, continue to operate the business today. The family still
operates the company with the same integrity and faithfulness
that Hunter G. Harbison instilled into them and his company.
